Chrysanthemum arabesque ottchil lacquer writing desk large two-tone Chrysanthemum & Arabesque Ottchil Desk by Cheyul. Material: Ash wood, mother-of-pearl, ottchil lacquer Magam. Size: W760 x D340 x H330 mm. As a representative piece of furniture from the Sarangbang (the traditional study of Joseon scholars), this lacquered Seoan (floor desk) maintained the host's dignity and position when sitting across from guests. Over time, the red lacquer subtly blooms like a flower on the 'Dubit Seoan,' atop which chrysanthemum and arabesque patterns—symbolizing abundance and longevity—are meticulously inlaid with mother-of-pearl. Crafted by the hands of a master artisan, this Seoan adds profound depth to the collector's space with its grounding presence. *This piece was presented as an official state gift to U.S. President Joe Biden, sharing the beauty of traditional Korean crafts with the world. Cheyul is a Seoul atelier making lacquer and mother-of-pearl tableware, objects and jewellery by hand; made-to-order pieces can take 3–6 weeks.
